What is collected
Analytics
We use two analytics tools to understand which guides are read and roughly where visitors come from. Neither is used for advertising.
Google Analytics 4 sets first-party cookies holding a random identifier for your browser, and reports pages viewed, approximate location and the kind of device used. Google processes this as our analytics provider under its own privacy terms. You can block it with your browser settings or Google’s opt-out add-on, and nothing on the site will stop working.
Vercel Web Analytics runs alongside it and works without cookies. It counts page views using a short-lived hash generated on the server and discarded the same day, so nothing is stored on your device.
Retailer link clicks
Retailer buttons link directly to the retailer. Nothing about that click is stored by us; the retailer may recognise our affiliate tag in the link under its own policy.
Hosting logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (such as requested URLs and status codes) to operate the service and protect it from abuse. These are governed by the provider’s own privacy terms and are not used by us to identify visitors.
If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to respond and resolve the issue.
Third-party sites
Retailer buttons take you to other companies’ websites. Once there, their privacy policies apply, including any tracking they use to attribute a purchase to our affiliate link. See our affiliate disclosure.
Children
Many guides are about gifts for children, but the site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and rights
You can opt out of our analytics at any time by blocking cookies in your browser, using a private window, or installing Google’s opt-out add-on. Nothing on the site depends on them, so everything keeps working.
Because we hold almost no personal data, there is usually nothing to access or delete. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence removed, or you have any other request under the privacy law that applies to you, contact us at hello@giftwiselist.org.
Changes
If the way the site works changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
